Checking water quality in fishing

Sectors that depend on water quality, such as fishing and tourism, are increasingly affected by high concentrations of nitrates in the water. Nitrates are a source of harmful water pollution. Excessive concentrations of nitrates in water are harmful to both human health and ecosystems, causing oxygen loss and eutrophication.

International Fishermen's Day has been marked on 27 June since 1984. This day was established at the International Conference for the Regulation and Development of Fisheries in Rome.

Fishing requires relaxation, passion and a lot of patience

Fishing is an occupation and a passion shared by WESSLING Romania employees. Cristian Pergelt, deputy coordinator within the Air Sampling department of WESSLING Romania, is passionate about fishing and escapes from everyday life on the shores of the lakes, either as a fisherman or as an organizer of fishing competitions. It feeds on a feeder, a specific technique in stationary fishing and uses 2 rods of 3.30m and 3.60m with an action power of 80g.

"The quality of the fish is strongly influenced by the quality of the water. And the biggest quality problem of fish in lakes is given by the concentrations of nitrates in water from the excessive use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture. Nitrates are not toxic to fish, only to humans, once they reach the body through water and contaminated food, they turn into nitrites, much more toxic substances. A water quality analysis report can be a good guide to safe fishing for the consumer."

Water quality analysis and consulting

For a healthy population, the chemical and ecological status of the waters of rivers and lakes where the population carries out recreational fishing activities must be checked periodically. WESSLING Romania supports lake owners and municipalities in actions for good water status and provides advice and analysis for:

  • the locations and boundaries of surface water bodies
  • initial characterization of water bodies
  • physical, chemical, microbiological and ecotoxicological analyzes of waters
  • degree of water turbidity (degree of transparency)

The analyzes are collected in an accredited regime, using the WESSLING collection kit, specially designed to ensure the quality of the samples from the collection to the test laboratory.
